Can you describe your culture?

Many organisations have a secret. The senior people know the finances inside out. They have a good grip on strategy. They’re all over risk. But when it comes to their culture, all they manage is a few platitudes like:

We have a great culture here. We’re just like one big family.

It’s not surprising. Culture isn’t a core subject in MBA courses. It rarely rates a mention in business plans.

Yet the father of management Peter Drucker says:

Culture eats strategy for breakfast.

Ask yourself two questions:

Can you clearly describe your organisation’s culture?

If you can, are you positive it’s really the way things are done?

If your answer to either question is no, I can help.
